In English, to go down the rabbit hole is to start looking into one thing and slide into an endless, strange and tangled world. In the film The Matrix, Morpheus offers the red pill and promises to show how deep the rabbit hole goes, borrowing straight from this story.

In the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland · Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland opens on a hot, drowsy day. Alice runs across a field after a White Rabbit who takes a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and follows it down its hole: The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down. Below, she wanders a strange land, growing larger and smaller as she goes.
